ELVIS PRESLEY THE KING OF ROCK `n` ROLL
A poem about The King,
I think it is time I penned.
The rocking rolling legend
whose music will never end.
Elvis Aaron Presley, was his name,
a surviving twin, born in Tupelo,
who was moved on to Memphis,
a place he was destined to go.
`Cos Memphis is where it happened,
Sam Phillips heard a unique sound,
and knew it had to be.
Elvis had the sound the world wanted,
a different style and beat.
Rockabilly and rock `n` roll,
that would sweep us off our feet.
Elvis then took the world by storm.
Gyrating as we had never seen before.
His music influenced many others,
as did the clothes he wore.
With his Guitar in his hands,
his familiar quiff and curled lip.
There was no one quite like Elvis
who could `let it rip`.
My most loved of all Elvis,
was in leathers at the `68 Come-back,
but when Elvis did Las Vegas,
a jump suit became his act.
He rocked and he crooned like no other.
Many tried hard to emulate.
His good looks and charisma left them standing,
then regrettably Elvis, sealed his own fate.
Throughout his life he rocked,
was a GI, married, and became a father.
Very sadly there was a divorce,
it was then, that I felt, that he faltered.
Then came that fateful day,
Tuesday 16th August `77.
A very sad day for the whole of the world
the day that God took Elvis to heaven.
Elvis died tragically in Graceland,
his home in Memphis, Tennessee.
A house he bought for him and Priscilla,
to raise a family.
He now lays to rest in the Garden,
so all his fans can call,
to honour the man they all knew and loved,
as the King of rock n roll.
